The PointCare NOW: A breakthrough technology for CD4 measurement.
Avoiding the pitfalls of CD4 counters using fluorescence, the PointCare NOW distinguishes and counts CD4+ cells by light scatter –the same detection principle found in modern high-quality hematology analyzers.
What makes this breakthrough possible is a novel colloidal gold reagent technology that makes light-scatter CD4 measurement possible and also labels CD4 lymphocytes in an extraordinarily fast reaction time of 30 seconds, allowing the PointCare NOW to report CD4, CD4%, and 5-part hematology results in only 8 minutes. PointCare’s novel reagent technology uses a lyophilized monoclonal antibody marker for CD4 lymphocytes that allows shipping without cold-chain and storage at ambient temperatures typical of frontline resource limited setting.
In the November 2011 issue of Cytometry Part A, PointCare showed the efficacy of the Immunogold reagent system on multiple flow cytometry platforms. This publication is the result on an ongoing collaboration with the Research Flow Cytometry Unit at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital. Read more at Right.
The PointCare NOW Technical Note provides an in-depth explanation of our technological innovations. It also includes results of comparative technology evaluations including one conducted at CDC in Atlanta in 2010.
